Typically, the gown is worn over a shirt and tie for men, or a smart dress/blouse for women. Put the gown on as you would a jacket, making sure it’s the right way out – the smoother, more finished side should be facing outwards. The sleeves are usually wide and open, designed to be worn over your arms, not through tight cuffs. Ensure the gown sits comfortably on your shoulders and hangs evenly, with the hem typically falling around mid-calf or ankle length, depending on the academic institution's specifications.
